Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays because all I can remember is all the fun my siblings and I had getting all dressed up and getting as much candy as we could to get a sugar high off, not that we needed any more energy than we already had.
To start off the traditions in my family, my family would first go to the famous Pumpkin Show in Circleville and eat as much pumpkin food as they had, like pumpkin donuts, which are my favorite, pumpkin waffles, even pumpkin chili. we ate regular fair food too; you can never pass up a fried Oreo! At the Pumpkin Show people would compete to grow the biggest pumpkin they could and then the judges would obviously pick a pumpkin and it would be a huge ordeal. The biggest pumpkin that was displayed in the show this year was 1,180.5 pounds, which is massive.
After the Pumpkin Show, we would head to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect pumpkin and we obviously had to go on the hayride too! My family and I then went back to my Nana's house to then cut and crave the pumpkins and oh boy did it get a little messy. My favorite part about carving pumpkins was getting all the gross stuff out from the inside! We would all draw up a sketch of what we wanted and started craving! After all the pumpkins were craved, we would put a candle inside and line them up on our porch to see the masterpiece we created! But we were not finished. My Nana and I would always take the seeds out of our pumpkins and put seasonings on them, bake them, and we had a little treat after our hard work!
But the best part about Halloween was finding the best costume to wear when we went trick or treating. I of course was always the typical witch or cheerleader for Halloween, but it was so fun to get to wear something out of the everyday outfit and to get some candy because of it! After my siblings and I were all done trick or treating, we would dump all our candy out and trade what we didn't like. We would all have a sugar rush for about a week, but it was all worth it to us!Until next Halloween,
Lauren
Lauren, the pumpkin show sounds so fun! Pumpkin flavored things are one of the best parts of Fall, at least in my opinion. Also, I can't even begin to imagine a pumpkin that weighs over 1,000 pounds, that's crazy and super cool! And I definitely agree that costumes were always the highlight of Halloween, I also tended to dress up as a witch or one of the other typical choices. But it was always so fun getting to put a costume together and go trick or treating with friends!
ReplyDeleteLauren, I have always been a huge Halloween fan! I love hearing about all of your traditions that you have with your family. Over the years, my family also has created many traditions. I love thinking of fun ideas for my friends and I to dress up as each year.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is one of my favorite times of year! With the fall colors and weather, it just puts me in a better mood. It's cool that your town has an annual fair you guys can attend. My family doesn't really have any Halloween traditions since we are older, but I miss all of the fun things we used to do. This is the first year I didn't dress up and I TOTALLY regret it. There's always next year!
