Have you ever needed to take time off from reality? Or even just escape from the world for a couple of hours? The relief that a sport, person, or activity gives you almost feels unreal. The feeling of letting go of whatever is worrying you and just being present in what you love or whatever your passion is, is refreshing. Everyone needs to escape sometimes and mine is by playing softball.
Sports have always been a big part of my life. Even when I was young, I loved to go to my practices or games or whatever sporting even I had. It was such a passion for me because I could be in the moment and not worry about anything else. I really got into sports around fifth grade. It was also good to forget about some of my responsibilities because I could hang out with my best friends while also playing the sports I loved!
Throughout my life I have always played three sports. But my favorite sport was softball by fair. It is actually ironic because it was the last sport I got into. I only started it when I was in eighth grade. But when I played it is like nothing else mattered and I was pretty good at it. It took everything that I had to worry about slipped my mind for a while and made me appreciate the sport I love.
My teammates and the bonds that we have on the team also play a big part in softball. With my teammates being a place of comfort almost. They all have similar responsibilities as me and can relate to "the college life". We all share the same passion on the team, and it helps make softball a common place of relief for all of us.
I am very blessed to say the least because I can continue on having my passion area in my life. As life gets a little more complicated, it is even more of an important part of my life because sometimes the escape from reality is much needed, at least for a few hours. Ohio Northern has given me the opportunity to play the sport I love and not get too overwhelmed while trying to figure out my life.
Every once in a while everyone needs a little time to relax and just enjoy what they love doing the most. Mine happens to be softball. But yes, life can be hard at times, but it's the little things that help everyone forget about our responsibilities for a little.
Until next time,
Lauren
Hey Lauren! I couldn't agree more about your post to escape reality. I think we're similar in the aspect of relieving our stress through sports. For me, soccer has always been a way I can completely forget about life and just focus on a game. Like you said it's almost an unreal feeling. I am so happy you have the opportunity to still play the sport you love while tackling the real world. I wish you the best of luck this season!
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren! I love this blog so much. I used volleyball as an escape all my life and regret not continuing it on throughout college. It is nice to use a sport as a stress release from other things going on in life, such as school. I hope you have a wonderful upcoming season!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more with your post! I play lacrosse and use it as my escape ever since I started playing. When playing it feels like you do not have to worry about anything else that is going on in your life and you are only focused on what is happening on the field. Hope you have an amazing season!
